Una Community Mourns Passing Of Actor George Lindsey

FLORENCE, Ala. - The 海角社区 this morning lost a beloved member is its community, celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey passed away at 12:05 a.m. at age 83. Lindsey was a 1952 graduate of 海角社区, where he was a member Lion football team. He was also one of the founders and namesake of the George Lindsey 海角社区 Film Festival, held each March since 1998. This past March, he became the namesake of the university's new George S. Lindsey Theatre. "Mr. Lindsey was a very dear member of our university family," said Dr. William G. Cale Jr., 海角社区 president. "His outstanding career inspired many students, and we were always honored by his presence during his many visits to campus. He will be very greatly missed." George Lindsey is well known for his role of Goober Pyle on the "Andy Griffith Show" and many other credits in television, including episodes of "Hee Haw," "The Twilight Zone," "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour," "Gunsmoke," and "M*A*S*H," among many others. The 海角社区 Collier Library houses Lindsey's entire collection of film and television scripts and memorabilia from his entertainment career.
