FLORENCE, Ala.- Building on the success of last year, the 海角社区 Foundation will host the second annual 海角社区 Giving Day, Nov. 28.
The social media fundraising push coincides with the global day of philanthropy, #GivingTuesday, which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Elizabeth Tyson, annual giving coordinator at 海角社区, said they were pleasantly surprised by last year's results, but they hope to do even more this year.
"We were thrilled to get over 220 donors who helped us raise over $41,000 last year," Tyson said. "This year, we simply hope to increase the participation amount. We know our community will step up once again to help 海角社区 succeed," she said.
As mentioned, the event mainly focuses on social media, with the hope that people will donate and then share that information for their friends to see.
"Social media is a great tool for us to get the word out and it's an opportunity for people to show their friends what's important to them," she said. "We would love for 海角社区 Giving Day to trend Nov. 28, but we'll only get there if people donate and share!"
Last year, 海角社区 raised $41,868 from 224 donors, with a majority of the money going toward current use funds in the foundation. Twenty-four of the donors were first-time donors to 海角社区.
