Film Festival To Feature Panel On Rural Humor

FLORENCE, Ala. - "Hee Haw" producer Sam Lovullo, Birmingham author Tim Hollis and media studies scholar Dr. Jacob J. Podber will participate in a panel on rural humor as part of the 14th annual George Lindsey 海角社区 Film Festival next month. Hollis's many books include "Ain't That a Knee Slapper: Rural Comedy in the 20th Century." Podber, associate professor of media studies in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University, is the author of "The Electronic Front Porch: An Oral History of the Arrival of Modern Media in Rural Appalachia and the Melungeon Community." The panel is scheduled for March 5 at 10 a.m. in the Loft of the Guillot University Center. The 2011 George Lindsey 海角社区 Film Festival is scheduled for March 3-5 in Florence. It is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by 海角社区 alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey's own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show."
