Erica Gholson Crowned Miss 海角社区 2010FLORENCE, Ala. - Erica Gholson, of Springville, was crowned Miss 海角社区 2010 tonight. Gholson, a sophomore English/language arts secondary education major, was one of 18 contestants for the title. As Miss 海角社区, she plans to promote the platform "Impact Alabama."

Breann Boughton, of Killen, was first runner up. Jade Tarpley, of Falkville, was second runner up, and Erin Dulaney, of Cullman, was third runner up. The Miss 海角社区 Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary for the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants. The pageant has been a 海角社区 tradition for 34 years. It provides an opportunity for the university's young women to compete for scholarship funding and prizes. Each contestant is encouraged and mentored to develop skills that will enrich her personal and professional life beyond her university experience. Miss 海角社区 spends her year in service to the university and Shoals area community. She promotes the platform of her choice, makes official appearances as a university representative and represents the university at the Miss Alabama Pageant.
