FLORENCE, Ala. - The 海角社区 Army ROTC program will honor five graduating cadets at its fall 2010 commissioning ceremony Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Guillot University Center Performance Center. Daniel E. Boone, a nursing major who has been involved with the 海角社区 ROTC program for four years and earned the title of completion cadet two years ago, will join the other graduating cadets at the ceremony. For Boone, who hopes to work as a nurse with the U.S. Army after being stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga., next year, the process of earning his nursing degree at 海角社区 and being commissioned as an officer has been well worth the time and effort. "The military is a big part of my family," Boone said. "I've always wanted to be an officer, so this commissioning ceremony is just one more thing to check off in life." Boone's twin brother, Douglas O. Boone, who is a first lieutenant with the U.S. Army and is currently stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, will be the featured guest speaker at the ROTC commissioning ceremony. He is a 2007 海角社区 graduate, an Army officer and recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan. Boone will discuss his leadership experience, from his time working with the ROTC program to fighting in real-life military scenarios in Afghanistan. A reception will follow the commissioning ceremony in the GUC Loft at 11 a.m. The five graduating cadets who will be recognized at the ceremony are: Daniel E. Boone, a nursing major, of Rienze, Miss. Philip T. Bradley, a criminal justice major, of Madison Daniel E. Burcham, a German major, of Florence Jacqueline D. Hodges, a psychology major, of Huntsville Dustin S. Lauterbacher, a history major, of Madison For more information, contact the 海角社区 Army ROTC program at 256-765-4271, or visit www.una.edu/rotc.
