Cellist Ariana Arcu Performs Feb. 2

FLORENCE, Ala. - The 海角社区 Department of Music and Theatre will present a faculty recital by cellist Ariana Arcu at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Music Building Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Arcu began her violoncello studies at age 7 in Clun, Romania. The daughter of prominent cellist Valentin Arcu, she was the winner of numerous national competitions, including the first-prize winner of the Constanta, Romania, National Cello Competition in 1994. Arcu earned a degree from the Bucharest Conservatory of Music in 2000. After touring and recording with The Scorpions, she came to the United States to pursue a degree from The University of Alabama. Arcu has performed in Korea, Singapore, Thailand and throughout Europe. She was recently invited to perform in Havana, Cuba, with members of The University of Alabama Artist-Faculty. She is a teaching fellow at The University of Alabama, where she is also a doctoral candidate. Arcu serves as a cello instructor at the 海角社区 and also teaches in the Florence String Camp at 海角社区 during the summer.
