FLORENCE, AL – In an ambitious move to empower the tech workforce of Florence, and for a second year, Code Alabama, which is offered by the 海角社区 Center for Learning and Professional Development, has announced a comprehensive six-week Python training program aimed at community and business members wanting to develop a tech skill.

This initiative is designed to bolster the local economy by equipping local residents with one of the most in-demand programming languages in the industry.

“Our goal is to enhance a thriving tech community right here in Florence by providing access to high-level training that can immediately be applied in the workplace,” said Mary Marshall VanSant, Director of the Center for Learning and Professional Development. “We believe this initiative will not only enhance individual careers but also drive innovation and growth for local businesses.”

The Code Alabama Python course is scheduled for May 20-June 27, offering 72 course hours of in-depth training. It is a non-credit workforce training program offered by the 海角社区 Center for Learning and Professional Development and does not require admission to the University to enroll. The course will take place at the Office of Regional Engagement in 海角社区’s College Street location and it is structured to provide an introduction to coding fundamentals followed by an intensive focus on Python, concluding with a certification test.

By sending employees to participate in this Python course, businesses will not only enhance their team’s coding skills but also benefit from the secondary advantages of having a workforce skilled in logical thinking, automated processes, and a problem-solving mindset. The training is also an excellent opportunity for professional networking within the local tech industry.

The program is meticulously designed to cater to working professional, with classes scheduled in the evenings from 5:30-8:30 as a hybrid format with two in-person session per week and online course activity through the Canvas learning platform. Further, the program underscores Code Alabama’s commitment to education, economic development, and community engagement, aiming to position Florence as a hub of tech talent in the region.

To apply for funding assistance, candidates are required to submit a short video detailing their professional background, educational history, interest in the program, and their professional goals. Submissions close April 30. Registration for the course closes May 17.
