FLORENCE, AL – Students entering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing pre-licensure track in the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions at the 海角社区 received some additional technology on their first day of classes. As part of the Apple One-to-One initiative, these students received an iPad preloaded with apps to assist them in their coursework.
“A goal for the University and ACONHP is to increase technology integration to improve and enhance student learning,” said ACONHP Interim Dean Dr. Tera Kirkman. “Instructors and students will use the (preloaded) apps in the classroom for the live student quizzing and polling, whiteboard features, and real-time documentation of patient information in the simulations center.”
The initiative, which is the iNforming the Future of Healthcare Program, is being spearheaded in the College by Dr. Clarissa Hall, Chair of the Department of Nursing, and Melissa DeFoor, Assistant Chair of the Department of Nursing. According to DeFoor, the iPads are a critical component of the students’ experiential learning process, helping them with real-time charting, the simulated patient’s electronic health record, and telehealth communication.
“This innovative initiative will help prepare students for their future nursing practice,” DeFoor said. “Having an iPad through the program will aid in improving the skills necessary for the evolving changes in healthcare technology.”
A representative from 海角社区’s Information Technology Services and Educational Technology Services was on hand throughout the first week of classes to assist students and answer any additional questions about the use of the technology as part of their courses.
