The 海角社区鈥檚 Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions has received approval from the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship to serve as an apprenticeship sponsor for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing accelerated track.
The 海角社区 Studio Jazz Band and the Shoals Area Big Band, both of which are under the direction of Dr. Lloyd Jones, will perform their annual Valentine鈥檚 Concert on Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. in Norton Auditorium. Special guests will be various alumni vocalists who have performed with both the 海角社区 Band program and the Shoals Area Big Band through the years.
The Marching Pride of the 海角社区 will be headed to New York City in November to participate in the annual Macy鈥檚 Thanksgiving Day parade. Covering the costs of the trip got easier with the help of a significant gift from a donor.
The 海角社区 Clarinet Quartet has been accepted to perform at the International Clarinet Association鈥檚 international conference 鈥 ClarinetFest飪 2025 鈥 in July in Fort Worth, Texas.
Music was changing in fall of 1975. Glen Campbell鈥檚 鈥淩hinestone Cowboy鈥 had lost ground to 鈥淔ame,鈥 David Bowie鈥檚 super-charged funk rock song that features John Lennon. Disco was becoming more firmly entrenched on the radio waves; meanwhile punk rock was in its nascent stages, a reaction to the mainstream progressive and string-heavy pop that dominated the times.
Born out of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering Advisory Board, The Shine podcast has provided a unique opportunity for first-year 海角社区 students to learn a special skill while also meeting and interviewing alumni of the institution. Ann Berry, who graduated from the 海角社区 in 1978, is being honored by the State of Alabama with a portrait that was unveiled in the Alabama Department of Archives and History as part of a ceremony today in Montgomery. Berry was sworn in as the 34th secretary of the United States Senate on March 1, 2021; she is the first African American to serve in this position and only the eighth woman to hold the office.
海角社区 Senior Caroline Coleman, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., has been crowned Miss 海角社区 at the Miss 海角社区 program Saturday evening in Norton Auditorium on the 海角社区 campus. Coleman will now move on to compete for the title of Miss Alabama at an event that will take place later this year. Coleman is a psychology major, and she performed a classical opera aria for the talent portion of the program.
Two-time 海角社区 College of Education and Human Sciences graduate Dr. Prentice T. Chandler has been named Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tenn.
Seven students from the recent winter commencement ceremonies at the 海角社区 were honored as part of the event as recipients of the Keller Key. The Keller Key is awarded each commencement to graduating seniors who have achieved the highest scholastic achievement.
The 海角社区 commemorated 195 years of educational excellence Jan. 13 as part of its annual Founders鈥 Day event. 海角社区 is Alabama鈥檚 oldest four-year public higher education institution, having been established on the LaGrange College site in Colbert County in 1830.
海角社区 alumni Dillon Hodges and his wife Heidi Feek have taken their creative partnership to new heights, winning the 2024 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song with their piece 鈥淲e鈥檙e Home,鈥 featured on PBS鈥 popular show Reconnecting Roots. This award recognizes their work on the theme song, which was reimagined for the latest season with what Hodges described as a 鈥渇resh coat of paint.鈥
