FLORENCE, AL – The 海角社区’s Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions has received approval from the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship to serve as an apprenticeship sponsor for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing accelerated track.
“The apprenticeship program is an exciting opportunity for the College and the students enrolled in this track,” said Dr. Tera Kirkman, Dean of the College. “Student apprentices will work one-on-one with a preceptor throughout their program of study. They will be compensated for their hours worked and will earn credit for completing clinical hours. As they progress in the nursing program, apprentices will have the opportunity to perform nursing skills under the supervision of their preceptor. This hands-on experience will not only enhance their clinical competencies but also open pathways to career success, ultimately contributing to the high standard of care provided by our highly trained BSN graduates.”
Beginning at the start of the Spring 2025 semester, students admitted into the BSN accelerated track will have an opportunity to work as apprentices at Huntsville Hospital main campus and Women’s and Children’s, Athens Limestone Hospital, or Decatur Morgan Hospital. The students will receive a full scholarship, including tuition, fees, books, and one uniform; as well as payment for several clinical hours. They will also have guaranteed employment during and after their completion of the nursing program at 海角社区.
“Currently, 14 students are enrolled in the 15-month accelerated track,” said Dean Kirkman. “This track is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline. All coursework is completed online, and clinicals are completed in North Alabama. We are eager to see the growth in this track and the apprenticeship program as our healthcare needs in the state and region continue to expand.”
Dr. Amanda Hitt, ACONHP Scholarship Director, is the contact person for the apprenticeship program; her email is ahitt@una.edu. She can provide additional information on the program to those who are interested in learning more and/or enrolling.
