FLORENCE, Ala. - A 海角社区 art exhibition is on display in the Visual Arts Gallery until Dec. 9, where 12 graduating art students are presenting their original works in a professional setting. For the first time starting this semester, the 海角社区 Department of Art is requiring graduating seniors of all art concentrations to take part in a mandatory exhibition to complete their undergraduate degrees. Department chair Chiong-Yiao Chen said the department hopes to prepare 海角社区 seniors for graduation by allowing them to gain experience from a student exhibition. "This is a way to demonstrate to the public their accomplishments and creative abilities," Chen said. "It is also an incentive for [seniors] to create artwork on their own outside of the class structure." Chen said the 12 graduating seniors are required to display four to five original works with a thematically coherent theme of a medium of their own choice in the exhibition. Department faculty evaluate each student's performance, which is also accompanied by a digital portfolio. The 海角社区 Visual Arts Gallery is located on the second floor of the Visual Arts Building and offers free admission from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
