Applying to Dental School

Admissions committees evaluate various credentials, including academic qualifications, Dental Admissions Test (DAT) scores, grade point average (GPA), letters of recommendation, personal interviews, and dental office shadowing experiences. Admission requirements can differ from one school to another.

Most dental schools require personal interviews to assess qualities such as a candidate's desire to help others, self-confidence, ability to face challenges, interpersonal skills, and capacity to work independently. The interview also allows candidates to ask questions about the school.

It's advisable to apply for admission at least a year before your intended enrollment date. Most dental schools are part of the Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS).
