Micro-Credentials in Higher Education Administration

Micro-credentials that are closely tied to identifiable career paths are highly sought-after, specifically in Higher Education Administration. To fulfill workforce demands suited to a knowledge-based economy, as well as provide exposure to the higher education environment for those individuals seeking a career change, we have added two new opportunities for students to earn micro-credentials in Higher Education Administration. The first emphasizes Student Development and the second emphasizes Organizational Support.

Both micro-credentials may be earned fully online. Applicants to the micro-credential program must have earned a bachelor's degree and must have graduated with an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Emphasis on Student Development

This micro-credential consists of 12 graduate credit hours of Higher Education Administration (HEA) coursework. It is designed to promote professional development and leadership among higher education career professionals by affording them access to recent scholarship, trends, and issues in their field specific to student life, student development, and student affairs. 

Requirements - A minimum of 12 hours of coursework must be selected from the list below.

  • HEA 605 Student Development Theory (3 credits)

  • HEA 607 Budgetary Management in Higher Education (3 credits)

  • HEA 611 The Legal Environment of Higher Education (3 credits)

  • HEA 613 Student Affairs Practices, Theory, and Policy (3 credits)

  • HEA 615 Contemporary Issues and Trends in Higher Education (3 credits)

  • HEA 619 Cultural Diversity in Higher Education (3 credits)

This micro-credential consists of 12 graduate credit hours of HEA coursework. It is designed to promote professional development and leadership among higher education career professionals by affording them access to recent scholarship, trends, and issues in their field specific to organizations within higher education that meet important needs beyond those related to students. Such needs include enrollment and marketing, university advancement, budgetary management, and assessment.

Requirements - A minimum of 12 hours of coursework must be selected from the list below.

  • HEA 603 Organizational and Administrative Structure of Higher Education (3 credits)

  • HEA 609 Enrollment Management and Institutional Marketing (3 credits)

  • HEA 615 Contemporary Issues and Trends in Higher Education (3 credits)

  • HEA 617 The Community College System (3 credits)

  • HEA 621 Empirical Assessment in Higher Education (3 credits)

  • HEA 623 University Advancement and Fundraising (3 credits)

Admissions Requirements
