What is the Honors College?

The Cole Honors College is a mix of academic components including honors courses, research, and experiential learning, co-curricular activities designed to prepare students for life after graduation, extracurricular elements including social and service opportunities, a cool study and hangout home in Coby Hall, and a community of students, faculty, and staff dedicated to an amazing college experience.

Who can apply? What are the criteria for acceptance?

You can! We want amazing people to apply, so you should apply. Motivated students with strong academic and extracurricular credentials (including work experience if applicable) are encouraged to apply. We do not require a minimum ACT/SAT or GPA to apply. We want anyone interested in the Honors College to apply. Anyone looking for the total college experience with an awesome support system should apply. Just apply!

The Honors College examines applications in five main areas: GPA, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities and work experience, leadership and service, and writing ability.

Do I have to apply separately for Honors College Scholarships?

No, we take care of that for you, but you must apply for other 海角社区 scholarships.

Are there any extra costs associated with the Honors College?

The Honors College pays for all activities and awards scholarships to all members.

Am I required to live in Honors housing (i.e., Covington and Hawthorne)?

Students in the Honors College may live wherever they wish, but we strongly recommend living on campus at least for the first year. There is a direct correlation between living on campus and academic success.

Do I need to apply for Housing if I want to live in Honors housing (Covington or Hawthorne)?

Yes, you must complete the application form available from Housing and Residence Life and include an application fee to reserve a space in Honors housing.

Does the Honors College accept transfers?

Yes, we encourage transfer students to apply. If you are considering transferring to 海角社区 and are interested in the Honors College, you should apply as soon as possible.

Will all my classes be Honors courses?

Honors students take a mix of Honors and regular courses. Students may also contract regular courses for Honors credit.

What differentiates an Honors course from a regular course?

Typically, Honors courses have smaller enrollments (20 or fewer), are oriented toward discussion rather than lecture, and involve a greater emphasis on active participation for the grade. 

Can I participate in other activities and be in the Honors College?

Absolutely, we want you to be fully involved in campus life. Honors students participate in varsity athletics, marching band, student government, campus ministries, Greek life, and other programs too numerous to mention.
