Duo - Set up a Token Passcode
It is HIGHLY recommended to create a passcode/PIN for your hardware token. Creating a hardware token PIN will help ensure your identity when authenticating. Without a PIN, you may be vulnerable to privacy issues, especially should you lose your token.
The instructions below represent configuring a PIN for a USB hardware token on a Windows computer. If you are using a token with a different connection method or operating system, you will need to alter your process to match your device type. Furthermore, to use the built-in Windows functionality described below, you will need Windows 10 (19H1 or later). If your Windows version is not compatible or you are using a different operating system, you will need to download software specific for that token to manage it.
Step 1 – Connect token to PC
Insert your token into an open USB slot on your computer. After inserting your token, your computer should recognize and install drivers for the device. Allow the driver installation to complete before proceeding.
Step 2 - Configure your passcode
Use the Sign-in options steps listed below to configure/manage the PIN for your token.
- Go to Settings (press the Windows key on your keyboard or click the Windows icon on your taskbar and type 'Settings').
- Select 'Accounts'.
- Select 'Sign-in options'.
- Select 'Security Key'.
- Select 'Manage'.
- To set/change your security key, click 'Add' or 'Change'. A passcode of more than 8 digits is recommended. The longer the passcode, the more security it will provide.
- To reset/wipe your security key, click 'Reset' and follow the prompts.
