The Fulbright U.S. Student Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs.  A candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.

During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences.  The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding. Schaefer, Mollie Faith
  Home: Homewood, Alabama
  Country of Application: Czech Republic; Submitted application as an   English teaching Assistant (undergraduate). Interested in using music,   speaking tours, and community involvement to enhance language and cultural   understanding.
  Majors and/or Minor: Art/Public Communication
  Highlights: Long-term plans include gaining certification to diagnose   and provide intervention to children with dyslexia in the school system.   Extracurricular activities and honors include Kappa Pi, Sigma Alpha Pi, Alpha   Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Freshman Forum Member of the Year, Arts and   Sciences Ambassador, Art Club President, Student Senator, and Lights and   Shadows Exhibitor.

Fleming, Jasmine Chardae
  Home: Winfield, Alabama
  Country of Application: Spain; Submitted application as an English   Teaching Assistant (undergraduate). Interested in using creative practices to   teach English.
  Majors and/or Minor: English: Professional Writing/Spanish
  Highlights: Long-term goal is to complete a graduate program in   creative writing and pursue a career in this field. Extracurricular   activities and honors include Sigma Tau Delta, Foreign Language Department   Study Abroad Scholarship, Honors Program Scholarship, Northwest Alabama Reading   Aids Volunteer, English Club, Honors Program, Art Club, Flor-Ala Writer and   Editor, and Lights and Shadows Magazine Editor.

Boren Scholarship

The Boren Scholarship provides up to $20,000 of funding for a student to study abroad and take classes in a foreign language important to national security. Upon graduation, Boren scholars must work in the federal government in a department critical to national security broadly defined.

AMGEN Scholarship

This scholarship provides funding for a STEM student to work in a lab over the summer at premier research university. The universities students can choose from are: California Institute of Technology, Columbia University, Harvard University, MIT, National Institutes of Health, Stanford, UC-Berkley, UCLA, UC-San Francisco, and Washington University in St. Louis.

Udall Scholarship

Provides up to $7,000 to sophomores and juniors who are invested in either Native American self-governance or the environment.

Marshall Scholarship

Provides funding to high achieving students to pursue a graduate degree at any institution in the United Kingdom.

Rhodes Scholarship

Provides full funding for an exceptionally high achieving student to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship

Provides $30,000 to pursue a graduate degree for a career in public service.

Barry M. Goldwater

For exceptional sophomores or juniors seeking to pursue research in the STEM disciplines. Students must desire to work and research in academia in a STEM field.
