Mrs. Becky White, Benefits Specialist, attended as a resource person. Dr. Christy called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m. The Agenda was approved by unanimous vote. The Minutes of the February 5, 2007 meeting were approved as presented by unanimous vote. Mrs. Catherine White and Dr. Steve Smith presented findings from a Group Life and Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance comparison. The comparison showed that by changing providers the University could increase current Life Insurance and LTD benefits significantly for a decreased cost of $10,000 per month. The basic life would remain at 1.5 times the annual salary, but the maximum benefits under an alternate providers coverage would increase from $200,000 to $400,000 for basic life and from $5000 to $10,000 for LTD. The two companies being considered also offer optional additional coverage for spouses and children at very reasonable rates. A motion was made by Birdie Bailey to recommend to President Cale that the University secure coverage with a new insurance company with increased benefits as outlined above. The motion was seconded by Larry Adams and passed unanimously. Ms. White indicated that a representative from each of the two companies could join the committee to discuss details, with one coming in March, and one in April. Mrs. Catherine White presented, as an information item, enhancements to coverage in vision and chiropractic benefits for the upcoming year with no additional premium costs. Vision benefits will increase from $150 biennial allowance to $250 biennially. With an agreement to convert to the Preferred Chiropractic network, chiropractic benefits will increase from the $400 and/or 12 visits maximum per annum (including those paid through the deductible), to $1000 maximum per annum with no maximum visit limit. Preferred providers must, however, receive approval from BC/BS to bill beyond 12 visits per year. The $250 deductible still applies. The agenda item concerning usage data from University Health Services was tabled until the next meeting.
